R-esistere (Resist)

Tuwaiq Sculpture

YEAR

2026

The sculpture R-esistere (Resist) is a poetic intervention in public space, shaped as a monumental spoon measuring 300 cm in length. Carved from Royal Rose granite for the handle and Royal Gold for the spoon itself, the work functions as a seat, inviting passersby to rest and contemplate. The bowl of the spoon holds an assemblage of stone chips collected from the scraps of other sculptors, amongst which a live plant is embedded. This element references the resilient flora that thrives amidst arid rocks, symbolizing nature’s persistence despite human impact. The spoon, a man-made object offering a portion of nature, serves as a metaphor for the gifts of the earth and the ancient caravans of Tuwaiq. By combining various granite types (rose, gold, green) and integrating living matter with stone, the artwork creates a dialogue between the artificial and the organic, urging viewers to respect the environment while enjoying a moment of harmony and balance.
