“The falcon does not fear the wind, it faces it”- Ahmad Angawi

Algorithms of Light: The Falcon (2025), from the series Algorithms of Light, explores the intersection of heritage, motion, and transformation. Installed within Qasr Al Hokm District, the historic heart of Riyadh and a crossroads for movement, the work translates rhythm and geometry into light and time. Reimagining the Hijazi mangour, the wooden lattice of the roshan, Angawi turns craft into a living algorithm.
Behind its carved geometry, translucent color scrolls move in measured rhythm, filtering hidden light into shifting codes of hue and shadow, as if illumination itself were a script being deciphered. Inspired by Najdi Sadu patterns and the Saudi falcon, a creature that faces the wind with strength and grace, the work reveals ancestral rhythms that bridge memory and motion. In this site-responsive installation, heritage endures not by resisting change but by facing it, like the falcon faces the wind.
