Shiro Takatani (b. 1963) is a Japanese artist and co-founder of Dumb Type, which represented Japan at the 2022 Venice Biennale. He has exhibited at the Centre Pompidou Metz, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, and the Sharjah Biennial, among others, and has collaborated with musician Ryuichi Sakamoto and fog sculptor Fujiko Nakaya. Recipient of Japan’s 65th Prize of Fine Arts and the Kyoto Prefecture Cultural Award, Takatani’s work explores technology and the human condition, with pieces held in the collections of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, ZKM in Germany, and the National Museum of Art, Osaka.
