When the Moon is Full

When the Moon is Full (2021) is an immersive installation by Zaman Jassim composed of illuminated discs, projected imagery, sound, poetry, and calligraphy. The work reflects on themes of departure, memory, and the passage of time, drawing a poetic parallel between the moon’s illumination and the emotional connections that shape human experience. Through layered visual and auditory elements, Jassim constructs a contemplative environment in which personal and collective memories unfold through light, language, and image.

The installation incorporates luminous holographic forms alongside spoken and written narratives, creating a sensory composition that blurs distinctions between presence and absence, past and present. Circular forms and celestial references recur throughout the work, positioning the moon as both a visual motif and a metaphor for continuity, renewal, and remembrance.

Installed at Qasr Al Hokum Metro Station, When the Moon is Full engages a site defined by movement and transition. Within this context, the artwork introduces a moment of reflection on memory, connection, and the rhythms of departure and return that shape everyday life.
