Francesco Simeti’s site-specific work, Unrelenting (2020), transforms the environment into a high-scale, immersive decoration composed of light and thousands of meticulously curated images. He reimagines his cut-paper motifs as perforated aluminum screens, back-lit by warm LEDs. Daylight filters through, projecting evolving silhouettes across the plaza; at night, the panels glow like patterned lanterns. The imagery, sourced from an extensive archive of Eastern and Western iconographies across human history, remains hidden in plain sight and presents itself as a timeless moving canvas. The work invites viewers to perceive ornament as evidence and beauty as a site of memory. It condenses diverse epochs and geographies into a single visual flow, where every decoration is layered with history.
