Run Beyond

Run Beyond (2022) is a light-based sculptural work by Angelo Bonello that centers on the human body in motion, using the act of running as both a physical and conceptual framework. The artwork depicts a figure captured mid-leap, suspended between departure and landing, emphasizing gesture, momentum, and spatial tension rather than a defined outcome.

Running is presented as a fundamental human action associated with instinct, urgency, and transition. In Run Beyond, movement unfolds as a continuous cycle, where motion begins, pauses, and resumes. This repetition reflects the rhythms of lived experience, suggesting continuity shaped by interruption rather than linear progression.

The sculpture is realized as a large-scale installation composed of illuminated silhouettes animated through controlled LED lighting. Light becomes an integral material, reinforcing the sense of perpetual motion and extending the work’s visibility across different times of day.Installed over the pedestrian bridge at the intersection of King Abdulaziz Road and Hisham Ibn Abd Al Malek Road, Run Beyond engages directly with a site defined by circulation and connection. Elevated above the roadway, the artwork transforms a point of crossing into a visual landmark, integrating movement, light, and infrastructure within the urban environment.
