Najd Icons, 2025

Mohammed Farea’s Najd Icons (2025) draws from the artist’s extensive cataloging of the geometric patterns, architectural forms, and material textures of Najdi architecture. The work is part archival and part celebratory—heritage captured for the future. It brings together triangles and floral motifs in vivid combinations that create an air of remembrance and celebration. The animation, projected onto the Najdi motifs of the Murabba building, temporally reveals the artist’s approach to the medium of paint. Traces of white chalk expose the hidden language behind the color, the drawn surface of the façade, and the linguistic forms of the familiar Najdi motif. As the animation continues, forms, colors, patterns, and textures are overlaid, revealing the distinctive presence of Mohammed Farea’s touch.
