Love Difference, 2025

Specifically recreated for Noor Riyadh, Love Difference (2025) by Michelangelo Pistoletto is an artistic and social project envisioning harmony among diverse people through the use of multiple languages, allowing everyone to feel represented. A wall of neon signs in various colors spells out Love Difference in different languages, enabling viewers to read and understand — and also not understand — emphasizing the individuality of each visitor.
In Riyadh, it becomes an homage to the city’s international character and the multiplicity of identities that live and move through it every day. Love Difference combines the universality of art with the idea of political transnationality and reflects on the challenges of global society. On one hand, differences between ethnic groups and cultures have been the cause of conflict; on the other, the standardization brought by globalization leads to the erasure of those very differences.
