Formations of Memory and Transformation

Tuwaiq Sculpture

YEAR

2026

This sculpture, carved from Royal Gold granite, is a deeply personal tribute to the city of Riyadh, where the artist spent his childhood witnessing the urban renaissance of the 1980s. Navigating Memory uses stacked stone masses to create a sense of undulation, mimicking the movement of water during its transformation from salinity to sustenance. The layers of stone symbolize the geological and temporal strata of memory, capturing the shift from scarcity to abundance. The artwork is not merely an object but a “visual discourse of the spirit,” expressing gratitude to the place that taught the artist the possibility of change. By placing this work in Tahlia Street, it reconnects with the site of its inspiration, standing as a witness to what was and a dreamer of what will be. It asserts that transformation is not just physical construction, but an emotional act that revives hope.
