Berlin duo Plastique Fantastique inflate architecture into empathy. Double Heart (2017) consists of two translucent pneumatic chambers that expand and contract in slow alternation, as if breathing for one another. This gentle, rhythmic dialogue transforms the space into a living organism, where movement becomes a visual language of interdependence. Visitors step inside one chamber and feel the subtle shift of air pressure, a tangible heartbeat connecting bodies and space. The immersive experience evokes a sense of shared vulnerability and presence, as each breath of the structure resonates with one’s own. The work embodies connection: two forms, one pulse. Through this symbiotic interplay, it suggests that true intimacy lies not in fusion, but in harmonious alternation, a continuous giving and receiving of space. At night, the structure glows from within, its surface catching city reflections like living skin. Monumental yet tender, it proposes that public art can be as soft and temporary.
