Clockwise Invitations, 2025

Noor Riyadh

YEAR

2025

LOCATION

King Abdulaziz Historical Center

For Noor Riyadh, Alex Schweder creates a vast, luminous inflatable that visitors enter and animate with their presence. Clockwise Invitations (2025) is not a fixed room but a breathing environment: fans cycle on and off, chambers expand and soften, passages appear and vanish as audiences gather and disperse. Light shifts gradually across translucent skins; textures and patterned membranes alter the feel of each zone, from a cool glow to an intimate haze. Orientation slips as up feels nearer than ahead, so movement becomes a kind of play, a choreography shared between bodies and air. Rooted in Schweder’s ‘Performance Architecture,’ the work turns spectators into participants, emphasizing collaboration, cohabitation, and the fluid boundary between structure and behavior. Rather than controlling space, Clockwise Invitations listens and responds, showing how architecture can be temporary, tender, and alive, an instrument that measures us not by where we stand, but by how we move together.
