In Amidst the Thirsty Wilderness (2025), mirrored film drapes between palm trunks, turning pathways into corridors of reflection. As visitors move, their bodies fracture into echoes; light and heat ripple across surfaces until the grove resembles water. Muhannad Shono invites the viewer to step inside an illusion that questions the solidity of memory. The work’s gentle disorientation evokes how belief and recollection shimmer, convincing yet unstable. A faint soundscape rises and falls like breath, folding time so that yesterday feels present again. Shono’s practice, rooted in narrative drawing and installation, transforms the ephemeral into sculpture, an idea made physical through light. The hundred palms are mirrored across the moving surface, reflecting viewers and their visions.
